Janet Frederick, BA, is currently pursuing a joint degree – Masters in Social Work and Masters in Education at Washington University in St. Louis. Prior to coming to the Brown School, she completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2013, receiving a Bachelors of Arts in English. She has worked with various nonprofits focused on providing academic and mentorship services for African American youth. Janet’s research interest include racial identity development in African American youth and its effect on academic outcomes. Additionally, she is interested in studying evidenced-based methods for utilizing community resources and strengths (Asset Based Community Development) to increase resilience among African American students and promote academic achievement.
