Demeisha is a first-year MSW student with a concentration in Mental Health. She is working on the Mentoring Alliance Project as a Data Analyst.
Demeisha previously served as an undergraduate research assistant for Dr. Elizabeth Stine-Morrow’s Adult Development Lab & Dr. Robin Jarrett’s Ethnographic Research Lab. Where she earned her Bachelor’s of Social Work with a minor in Adult Development at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. In her free time, she volunteered at the Crisis Nursery and participated in professional development programs such as McNair, Leadershape, and the Women in Leadership program through the YWCA.
Demeisha is excited to work for the Race & Opportunity lab because she wants to foster her knowledge surrounding the issues and barriers of getting black populations connected to community resources. She also felt that the lab would be a great way for her to learn more about the community since the Race & Opportunity lab is centered around community-based participatory research.
Demeisha enjoys recreational reading and loves spending time with her family.
After graduation, she plans to remain in St. Louis and become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker to serve black, underrepresented communities of color. Demeisha wants to eventually become a Family Therapist so that she can aid in healing the hurt and trauma that marginalized communities have been combating for centuries.
